August 6, 2008 - On August 14th, the Twin Cities Daily Planet will conduct an NRP workshop on Citizen Journalism. This workshop, presented by Lisa Peterson-de la Cueva, the Neighborhoods Editor of the Twin Cities Daily Planet, will teach participants how to upload articles, op-eds, events, pictures, and videos to the Daily Planet web site.
The Daily Planet? Isn't that the name of the newspaper in Superman? Yes. It's also a local online news source that can be a useful tool for your organization. Learn how to get your voice heard through this site.
Following up on this workshop, the Twin Cities Daily Planet will host the Citizen Journalism Writing Fellowship Program. Starting in October (dates to be determined) the Daily Planet will offer six sessions, one per month. At these workshops, participants will learn basic journalism skills for use in community and neighborhood newsletters, non-profit publications, journalism web sites and blogs, podcasts, and other citizen journalism formats. The sessions will focus on crafting a story, adopting a journalistic mindset, how to conduct interviews, and how to document stories from your organization. Participants will also get feedback on their writing and will gain concrete technology skills to help them in their craft.
